Welcome, Dr. Ryan Alter, your Delray Beach chiropractor. I just had an interesting experience with a patient here, a patient who’s never been to a chiropractor, and I sat down and did a consultation and found out this person has a five, six year history of lower back pain, neck pain. He’s a a 51-year-old bodybuilder, really beat himself up and finally it seemed like, came in here to, to get things figured out and.
I sat, I did a consult and I explained to him that these are signs and symptoms, that there’s something going wrong and, and my job is to figure out what the something wrong is. And the next step would be a careful evaluation. And then we’re gonna take a set of x-rays to see the underlining condition of the spine, to see what we’re up against, to see if there’s any permanent damage.
And then I took a break, had him empty his pockets. I went and saw a patient or two, and then I came back and the girls came and told me the patient left. The patient left and said, I’ve got a lot to think about. And shuffled outta here. And I had no idea he was gonna leave. But my thought is he thought he was coming in here to get his problem fixed.
And when he heard that I’m gonna take some x-rays, that I’m gonna go over a plan with him tomorrow, that it was gonna take some time. Okay. He had to think about it. And so the real question is, how do people come up with this concept? You have a back problem for five years. You’re 51 years old. How, how long do you think it’s gonna take to change and correct and fix a back problem?
At 51 years old, this is a bodybuilder, so he understands how long it would take to change the body. How long does it take to change the body? If you wanted to lose a bunch of weight, how long does that actually take? What does it entail? Changing the body takes consistency over time, and if you’ve had a problem for five years.
What is it gonna take? Do you want to get a lot better? Well, it’s probably gonna take a lot of work. How long have you had this? A long time? Well, it’s probably gonna take some time to get better. It’s almost common sense. I’m startled that people don’t understand that. But the lesson for this is that if you wanna make real change to your body, whether it’s your health, whether it’s your spine, whether it’s your teeth, if you wanna make a real change to your body, it’s gonna take some time.
So be prepared. That’s the reality, whether you like it or not. We’re here in Delray. We’re here to help you and everyone you know, feel your best.
