Why Don’t More MD’s Refer to Chiropractors?

Hey, welcome, Dr. Ryan Alter your Delray Beach chiropractor.  People ask me, why don’t, why don’t medical doctors refer to chiropractors? We have patients that start doing well here, and they say, why didn’t my medical doctor tell me about this? Well, there’s a few reasons. One of the reasons is they really don’t know what we do.

Okay? Lots of chiropractors do lots of different things, so the medical doctor doesn’t even really know what they’re referring to. Um, they also don’t really understand how chiropractic works and what we’re actually trying to accomplish. They think we’re kind of like physical therapist massage therapists.

They don’t understand that we’re working on the spine, which is directly, uh, affecting the nerve system, which is why chiropractic is so crucial. But I wanted to just explain here in my office, I’m in Delray Beach, if you don’t know that, um, I have a ton.  Of medical doctors referring to my office. And why is that?

Well, because I’ve personally met with a lot of them and I’ve explained to them exactly what we do. So I take care of a few. I take care of a ton of their wives over here. You can see this is an orthopedic surgeon in the area. I send a lot of cases there. If people need injections or God forbid they need surgery, he sends cases here as well.

This is a rheumatologist who. Functions more like a sports medicine guy. They do injections, but a lot of extremity work. So when people have elbow problems or knee injuries and, and they need an evaluation or injections done under diagnostic ultrasound, I send over here. Here’s another orthopedic guy.

Here’s a sports medicine guy. Um, this is actually a chiropractic coach, so a chiropractor who coaches, um, probably 200 other chiropractors, and he sent a personal endorsement of our office, which we really appreciate. This is a physical therapist, actually take care of one of the physical therapists over there.

I take care of the assistant. We set a ton of cases over there when people need real physical therapy.  There’s a dermatologist in the area. I take care of probably half a dozen people over there, including one of the doctors and a few of the, the staff and the team. And then over, there’s another chiropractor from up North who knows about the work that we do.

So it’s kind of an old thought process that that medical doctors don’t send the chiropractors, because in in my world here, we have a lot of medical doctors sending my way, and I’m sending a lot of cases out as well. So remember, we’re here in Delray Beach. We integrate with the medical profession. If someone comes to me and needs another type of doctor, I have the resources and the team and the network to refer them out.
