DRX9000 Spinal Decompression in Delray Beach

DRX9000 Spinal Decompression in Delray Beach

The Next Level of Spinal Decompression

What is the DRX9000? The DRX9000-SL is an FDA-cleared, computer-controlled spinal decompression system. You lie on your back while it gently stretches the low back or the neck in slow pull-and-relax cycles, taking pressure off irritated discs and pinched nerves. Dr. Ryan Alter offers it at our west Delray Beach office as the next level of spinal decompression, alongside our Triton decompression tables.

DRX9000-SL or Triton: Which Table Is Right for You?

We now offer two different levels of spinal decompression. The Triton is for the everyday person with back or neck problems, and the DRX9000 is the next level for people who’ve tried everything, are considering surgery, or want the very best. Both treat the neck and the low back. You don’t have to choose: he recommends a table based on your exam, your X-rays and how you respond.

What Is the DRX9000-SL?

The DRX9000 is a non-surgical spinal decompression system made by Excite Medical in Tampa, Florida. It was first cleared by the FDA in 2006 under the name DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System, for low back pain and sciatica linked to herniated discs, bulging or protruding discs, degenerative disc disease and posterior facet syndrome. The DRX9000-SL is the company’s current model, and our setup treats both the low back and the neck.

Like any decompression table, it gently stretches the spine to take pressure off the discs and the nerves around them. What sets the DRX9000-SL apart, according to Excite Medical, is how precisely it controls that stretch:

  • Real-time response. The motor makes up to 100 small adjustments per second, responding to how your body reacts so the pull stays smooth.
  • The SL treatment curve. A gradual, wave-like pull designed to keep your muscles from tensing up and fighting the stretch.
  • Disc-level targeting. The table can change its angle of pull to focus on one or more specific disc levels.
  • Patient memory. It remembers your settings, including positioning and angle, so every visit is set up the same way.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

The DRX9000-SL is aimed at neck and back problems that come from the discs and the joints around them, including:

It isn’t the right tool for every spine. Pain from a fracture, an infection or a tumor needs different care, and some patients do better on our Triton table or with adjustments alone. That’s why every plan starts with Dr. Alter’s exam, often with digital X-rays taken in the office.

What a DRX9000 Session Is Like

You stay fully clothed and lie on your back. For the low back, an upper body harness and a belt hold you in place. For the neck, a padded harness cradles your head. The table starts slowly, and you feel a mild stretch that builds, holds and eases off in cycles. Most patients find it relaxing.

Each session lasts about 20 to 25 minutes, and a typical plan is about 24 sessions over 6 to 12 weeks. Dr. Alter sets your exact plan after your exam, and may add gentle adjustments and a few simple exercises to do at home.

What the Research Says

Studies on the DRX9000 and on decompression in general are encouraging but limited. Most are small and have no comparison group. We explain what they found in does spinal decompression work?
